Summer Virtual Class Descriptions

ART

Art Park - Camera & Construction | Monday 10-10:50 am | Nick Lapole | Age 7-10

We spend a lot of time inside, within the abode that is called “home”. Artwork, too, finds a place in similar locations, whether they be museums, galleries, picture frames or refrigerators. Amazing, isn’t it, to have an artwork, a person, and a location all fit together naturally?

For this session, we will be constructing unique maquettes and displays for trinkets assigned and found around the house. We will start with an artist and a brief explanation of the task for the day, and continue forth working with clay, wood, and a tiny bit of paint. We will build up, document with photography, and recycle immediately afterwards to be both spatially and materially conscious.

Animation Station | Monday 11-11:50 am | Nick Lapole | Age 8 & up

Cooperation is of the essence when it comes to our entertainment! The lighting, the writing, the cameraman and the eclectic director, all working in tandem to create a sensational tale!

This session of Animation Station will be all about this collaborative necessity… a minute or two film made in just 4 sessions! Students will work with stop-motion, traditional hand-drawing and collage, translating individual stage cues from the art director into unique, GIF-able works of art. These GIFs will then be edited into a “feature”, what with a narrative arc chosen by the students.

Simple Drawing | Wednesday 10-10:50 am | Nick Lapole | Age 7-10

Now more than ever, we need the tools to build worlds, create characters, and imagine a better future. These skills don’t come easy, but the steps needed are as simple as 1, 2, complete!

This session is as it sounds: “simply drawing” with a few new tools thrown into the mix that amplify the work with little additional expense. We will evenly divide each class into gestural, strategic, and experimental drawing, all to better aid in visualizing ideas going forward and kick-start habits that will benefit future projects.

This session will be indebted to gestural drawing with set subjects and varying degrees of time. At present the Soundpainting language comprises more than 1200 gestures that are signed by the composer/director, known as the Soundpainter, indicating the type of material desired of the performers. Direction of the composition is gained through the parameters of each set of signed gestures. Soundpainting has grown to become an international live composing sign language used in many countries around the world both in the professional and educational arenas.
